Novaptech – development of aptamers
Aptamers are single-stranded structured nucleic acids (DNA, RNA or modified RNA) selected from a random oligonucleotide library against a predetermined target, through a combinatorial strategy named SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment). Aptamers can be selected against any type of target: proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, small molecules, toxins, cells, viruses, etc… They bind to their target with high affinity and specificity as they adopt tridimensional structures. Aptamers present many advantages: easy chemical synthesis once selected; storage conditions; chemical modifications are also easily introduced within the sequence or at either end. These properties make them relevant alternatives to monoclonal antibodies as diagnostic, analytical or therapeutic agents. The SELEX method is a powerful strategy but time consuming with iterative steps of selection and amplification. Two platforms have been assembled to perform automated selection and production of aptamers. The automation of the procedure has led to the development of a biotechnological activity in the field of aptamer innovation and technology transfer. These know-how and expertise, after 20 years of academic research, have been transferred to Novaptech.
Novaptech develops collaborative projects or service agreements with academic laboratories and R&D department of companies. Novaptech offers biotechnological development of aptamer-imaging probes and monitoring aptamer-based tools. Novaptech also proposes the implementation of new strategies to promote and develop the use of aptamers.
Novaptech is a biotech technology transfer unit created in 2008 and headquartered in Bordeaux (France). Novaptech develops collaborative projects or service agreements with academic laboratories and R&D department of companies.
