TwistDx offers a new isothermal DNA/RNA amplification technology (RPA : Recombinase Polymerase Amplification). RPA has several technical advantages compared to classical techniques: speed (detection in 10-15 minutes), sensitivity (single molecule detection), simplicity (stable lyophilized reagents), low cost (little or no hardware required), portable (isothermal technology with battery-powered instrument or disposable test format) and robust (to sample contaminants and temperature fluctuations). RPA operates at low, constant temperatures and does not require initial melting of the sample DNA. Furthermore, RPA has been shown to function directly on sample material that has not undergone a “traditional” nucleic acid purification procedure. RPA compatible template has been successfully prepared from nasal swabs, blood, culture media, or by simple pathogen lysis methods and without further isolation and purification of the nucleic acid material. Recombinase Polymerase Amplification therefore offers a portable, isothermal alternative to PCR. TwistDx makes RPA accessible to researchers in the form of TwistAmp kits. Theses TwistAmp kits are configured with options for fluorescent and lateral flow detection methods, electrophoresis and for DNA or RNA targets. TwistAmp kits contain all the reagents researchers need (apart from target-specific probes and primers) in order to develop their own rapid, highly sensitive and specific RPA assays.
