Biogazelle – transcriptome sequencing services

Biogazelle is a unique service provider allowing an early access to the newest instruments and cutting edge technologies for both ready-to-run experiments and customized projects. Biogazelle’s mission is to understand the transcriptome for next generation diagnostics and therapeutics through excellence in science and technology.

Biogazelle- transcriptome sequencing services

BiogazelleResearchers just started to appreciate the full complexity of the transcriptome with the emergence of non-coding RNA genes that have outnumbered the mRNAs. Biogazelle has a longstanding interest and expertise in RNA gene expression analysis, with a particular focus on non-coding RNA (ncRNA) including microRNAs (miRNA) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA). Biogazelle offers complete solutions for the study of RNA expression levels, from sample extraction to measurements using the newest technologies. Biogazelle’s founders have more than 10 years of experience in Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) experiment design, assay development and data analysis. All qPCR studies are performed according to MIQE compliant procedures and qPCR data analysis is done using the qbase+ software, the leading qPCR data analysis software. qbase+ is a user-friendly software providing easy, fast and reliable data analysis, based on the qBase and geNorm technologies and is fully MIQE-compliant.

Small RNA sequencing enables the unbiased, sensitive and specific discovery of all microRNAs expressed in a sample, including isomiRs. Starting with only 100ng of total RNA as input, Biogazelle uses the TruSeq small RNA sample prep technology in combination with Pippin Prep targeted size selection, followed by single end sequencing on a NextSeq 500 (Illumina). Mapped reads are annotated based on the latest miRBase release. Raw and normalized expression data is reported for each mature miRNA in miRBase, and expression level for individual isomiR is also provided. In addition to miRNAs, other small RNAs can also be studied, like piRNAs, tRNAs or sn(o)RNAs. Agilent SurePrint G3 technology is a custom developed gene expression microarray used as a cost-effective platform for quick, sensitive and simultaneous profiling of mRNA and lncRNA. The lncRNA content is based on LNCipedia that contains 32,183 lncRNA transcripts belonging to 17,512 lncRNA genes. The sources used to feed LNCipedia are LncRNAdb, Broad, Ensembl and Gencode.  Agilent SurePrint G3 technology thus represents the most comprehensive lncRNA content currently available.

Digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) is a targeted nucleic acid quantification method with unprecedented resolution, relative sensitivity and accuracy. This ddPCR technology allows answering the question of how many nucleic acid target molecules are present in a particular sample. Biogazelle is using Bio-Rad’s QX100 and QX200 droplet digital PCR technology and is the reference center for the ddPCR technology in Europe.

Double-mismatch allele specific (DMAS) qPCR is a cost-effective sequence variant genotyping method (SNP, mutation, etc…). DMAS qPCR is based on two parallel qPCR reactions using SYBR Green I and modified allele specific primers. Biogazelle has in-house expertise to design and validate DMAS-qPCR assays. Biogazelle is also able to run the genotyping study on its 384-well qPCR instruments and to determine the genotypes using proprietary algorithms and softwares.

Biogazelle is based in Zulte (Belgium) and was founded in 2007 by Jan Hellemans and Jo Vandesompele as a privately held Ghent University spin-off company. Biogazelle has developed lots of partnership, including prestigious partners like Bio-Rad, Ghent University (UGent), Integrated DNA technologies (IDT), PeopleWare, Fournier-Majoie Foundation (FFM) and Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB).
