Protea – bioanalytics

Bioanalytics is the direct identification and characterization of the products of all living cells, including lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and metabolites. Bioanalytics is emerging as a crucial area, where new technologies are needed to support the future of medical research. Protea Biosciences develops new bioanalytical methods enabling the direct analysis of proteins and other biomolecules, thereby improving the sensitivity, speed, and reproducibility of biomolecule characterization. Protea’s LAESI DP-1000 System is a high-throughput direct ionization system profiling the distribution of biomolecules. This LAESI DP-1000 System offers unprecedented access and visualization of the molecules of interest directly as they exist and where they exist in nature. Thus, LAESI DP-1000 offers spatial distribution profiling of biomolecules in tissues or living cells for drug/target interaction investigations, cell metabolism studies, cancer research, etc… LAESI DP-1000 allows you to introduce the sample directly into the mass spec without any front-end separation or preparation. Additionally, Protea has developed an extensive line of acid-labile surfactants for use in sample preparation, mass spectrometry, electrophoresis, electroelution, etc… The Progenta line of acid labile surfactants provides an optimal combination of powerful detergent properties and rapid degradation kinetics, for conversion of the detergent molecules into smaller organic compounds that do not posses surfactant properties or present as contaminants in subsequent analyses. Progenta surfactants include cationic, anionic, and zwitterionic detergents.

Protea Biosciences is a leading proteomics company. Protea was founded in 2001 by Steve Turner and is headquartered in Morgantown (USA). Protea’s scientific team is developing new technologies as well as products and services for both gel- and solution-based proteomics. Its laboratories include a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry facility, featuring BIOiTRAQ MALDI TOF/TOF and linear trapping quadrupole (LTQ) mass spectrometers.
